Secure financial statements and identity documents. Shred sensitive papers before disposal and avoid leaving personal information visible in vehicles or shared spaces.
Unexpected credit inquiries, new accounts, password-reset notices or address changes may indicate identity misuse and should be investigated promptly.
If identity theft is suspected, secure affected accounts, change compromised credentials and contact the relevant financial institutions and credit-reporting resources promptly.
